The ruling party Yeni (New Azerbaijan)has announced its presidential candidate for the upcoming election. And once again it is the incumbent head of state – Ilham Aliyev.

After the announcement, Deputy Chairman of Yeni (New Azerbaijan Party – Yeni Azərbaycan Partiyası) Ali Ahmadov said: “We have repeatedly stated that the candidature of the chairman of the ruling party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is supported not only by all members of the party, but by most people”.

One of coordinators of the oppositionist Public Chamber movement Panah Huseynov informed earlier that Aliyev’s participation for the third time would result in unfair election. Though the voting takes place in 2013, the campaign has already started.

The chances of the current president’s opposing candidates are slim. The nationwide constitutional referendum held in 2009 approved the abolishment of limiting a presidential term – the general argument stated such restrictions are anti-democratic. Furthermore, in 2012 the Parliament established the right of lifelong immunity for heads of state – the former and the incumbent.

It seems that Ilham Aliyev will continue to win, next year and so forth.

I to jest właśnie wzór demokratycznego, cywilizowanego i wyjątkowo praworządnego kraju. Nie wiem tylko dla czego tak długo zwleka rodzina Europejska z przyjęciem tego kraju do Unii. Dożywotni immunitet, prezydentura do końca świata... A my tylko słyszymy o wizytach kolejnych Polityków Europejskich w Baku, i o spotkaniach z Alijewem.

No i o gaz. O Iran. O Rosję i Turcję. O kawałek Azji Centralnej z jej gazem i ropą.
